Pom Pom

Did You Make Woolly Pom-Poms in the 1980s?

Well I did.

Not sure why, but in the 1980s as kids we seemed to make pom-poms. Quite a lot of them. Perhaps it was a good use of old cereal boxes (which were used in the making process) and left over wool. Whatever the reason, it took up a few hours on a cold winters night and kept us quiet whilst Dallas was on the telly, probably.

I found this one at the bottom of a bag of old clothes (hoarded from the 1980s and 1990s, of course).
Some of those clothes will find their way on to here too!

One of my favourite ones is a blue and white West Brom one I made by sticking a few pom-poms together, and trimming. I think I've still got it somewhere. If I ever find it I'll post it on here.

Do these have a value?

Well, like everything, there's a value I guess but not much. Some people sell them commercially and of course they can be attached to a woolly hat! Home craft stuff like this is more sentimental really. That's why I kept them this long as they were a reminder of making these with my mum and brother.

Fancy making your own pom-poms?
